In Tom's own words | The open ocean, but is it really? How to express myself? Has been a burning question. Sometimes I come off cringe. Or too emotional. Or just right. It's like there's a façade of what I'm really thinking and feeling. Recently the other evening, I had a strange experience like I was looking in on my own illusion or reality, I couldn't tell one from the other. It reminded me of a verse from a song by Dio, "lost and never found", but I had vanished in my own world. Not a nightmare because they go away as fast as a wake-up call, rather what if the veil deepens?
I hope you all enjoy the show...

The Contest
Lost in The Electric Sea - trapped within a Daydream. But we did give everyone a heads-up. So to make it up to you, we're giving you a Recipe to hidden treasure. So what's on the Menu? Notice, there are seven sections on the menu bar, each section will have one icon to look for. The lobster above is an example, but it could be an icon to look for. So, look for one map icon and six icons of a sea denizen that are all out of place - 7 icons in total. To get you started, the map icon will be published first and NOT on The Thomas Gallery section. All of the icons will be published within four weeks. Just name the icon and section, the first person who submits a correct and complete list, wins the contest prize. Only people from Canada and the United States are eligible to win both puzzle and dinner, however, to make it fair, international people are eligible to win two puzzles, one puzzle of their favorite piece from each artist, the artists are not eligible to enter the contest. How to submit will be announced. Any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to us...through the veil...

"But lo a stir is in the air!
The wave- there is a movement there!
As if the towers had thrust aside
In slightly sinking the dull tide-
As if their tops had feebly given
A void within the filmy Heaven."

"...this cocktail of color, found among the rocks,
crafted by the patient ocean’s constant dance,
leads this same glass to lose its former lustre.
But whilst it loses this, it gains a gloss
of frost slow-formed that shapes a stronger matter,
a shell as tough as nature can command,
and fragile glass becomes as hard as diamond."
- O. Tearle
Line Abstract | Stinger

About Tom Gower -
Tom said, "I always loved creating art, and then in my early twenties, I took my passion very seriously", and then he began to study the concepts of color theory, linear and abstraction. He combined those ideas with what he saw and felt using the pastel medium. Tom felt one of the best experiences he's had in following his passion was when he taught art at Gila Community College in Arizona at the San Carlos campus which is an Apache settlement. That's where he met Jennifer Grisenti. Tom mentioned, "it might not be obvious but the students taught me a lot", like how art can be appreciated on different levels there's not just one style. Like, all the students had different art styles, and each art piece they did expressed something new to Tom.
In art, Tom thought he finally found an easy way to express himself. He was drawn to abstraction by the feelings it stirred up in him. But he soon discovered abstraction to be the most challenging style, which is to express feeling with shapes and lines. However, Tom believes, we must know something before starting a piece of art, even if it's just basic knowledge of an object or a general idea. He elaborated, but there’s a lot more to an object than just knowing the basics, there’s shapes and expressive lines which can express a feeling. But that also happens in a strange way, such as, through the years, he's had conversations with art teachers and fellow artists. And if art theory was brought up, sometimes he and other artists were defied by the discussion, even though they already knew it (art theory), because somehow it showed up naturally in their artwork. Tom feels glad about that, because as he said, "I approach a piece by combining what I know with what I see and feel, even though sometimes I might not know what I know", as a consequence and even if by accident, what he's thinking and feeling somehow comes out natural in his art.
Tom is a member of the Eastern James Bay Crees. He is half Cree and half Italian. He lives in Quebec, Canada. A graduate of Zaki Gordon Film Institute and Sault College. Also, Algoma University where he majored in law, with a strong focus in mathematics and art.
